Feel like royalty
A step off vibrant Jalan Monkey Forest into the otherworldliness of Fibra Inn is like travelling into the gardens and compound of an ancient Balinese palace.
Lush and layered are almost understatements: moss-covered carvings, ponds and dense vegetation — it’s rich and lavish. Squeezed amid the pavilions, statues and family home, two different styles of rooms are on offer: traditional and ornate standard rooms, and modern tile and glass deluxes. Although smaller, yet still decent sized, we prefer the standard rooms as they are more in keeping with the aesthetic of the sumptuous grounds.
Behind the sandstone carved walls, the air-con rooms are furnished with a wooden half-sleigh bed adorned with a songket runner and a marble-topped side table. Wall-mounted lamps, traditional Balinese art and built-in storage add to the grand mood. Plain white walls calm what could be an excess of opulence, and the room feels rather restrained. The bathrooms are another matter, with marble, sunken baths and stone carvings.
Terraces are graced with throne-like wooden chairs and another larger marble-topped table. The modern deluxe rooms are comfortable and clean, and offer much more cat-swinging opportunity, however the decor is tad mish-mash. The bathrooms here are not nearly as ornate as the traditional one, but they are vast, with large sunken mosaic-tiled tubs. Beware some of the stairways leading to the upstairs rooms are narrow and steep. Go for the standard rooms, as they are the best value.
The small oval swimming pool is rather pond-like, with statues, pebbles and mossy edges. There are no sun-lounges, but a cushion-lined gilt-edged ornate pavilion offers shade. Indulge your inner royal lineage at Fibra Inn’s spa. Fibra Inn is at the southern end of Jalan Monkey Forest, 250 metres from the sanctuary. Breakfast and WiFi are included in the rate.
