Penginapan Melati

Penginapan Melati

Friendly and cheap

More on Waitabula

Penginapan Melati is the cheapest sleep in Waitabula, and possibly the friendliest too -- you’ll find it on an embankment along the main road of Waitabula in an L-shaped block — one part double-storey, the other single.

Travelfish says:

Rooms are positioned behind the reception and owner’s house edging a mossy cement courtyard. Louvred windows let the air flow into the simple clean rooms that come with a choice of fan or air-con, both with cold-water bathrooms. Twin beds are separated by a small table and have foam mattresses, a clean bottom sheet and blanket. There’s switches and power sockets, but you’ll need to get out of bed to flick the light. Air-con rooms add a small flatscreen TV too. Multi-coloured tiled bathrooms are stained, but clean with a flushing throne toilet, and sink. Oddly, the fan rooms have showers, but the air-con rooms we were shown only a mandi.

A simple breakfast of bread and coffee is provided, however no WiFi is offered. Penginapan Melati is popular with local NGOs and church folk. For a bit more of a spend, Hotel Sinar Tambolaka provides more comfortable beds and includes a big breakfast. Penginapan Melati has no signage, but you’ll find it one block north of Rumah Sakit Karitas, the large public hospital, on the opposite side of the road.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
