Breve Azurine Lagoon Retreat

Breve Azurine Lagoon Retreat

Perfect honeymoon spot

More on Karimunjawa Islands

Aside from a high-end resort on a neighbouring private island, Breve Azurine Lagoon Retreat is top of the class on Karimunjawa, and if you have the dosh, this French owned and managed boutique resort is a penny well spent.

Travelfish says:

Commanding a stupendous site overlooking a devastatingly gorgeous bay and “private beach” (they have the only land access), hand crafted stone and wood bungalows and villas cascade down the rocky ridge, all indulging in Mother Nature’s achievements. As you would expect at this price point, rooms are spacious and comfortable and service, personable and professional.

Rooms closer to the road are the lower priced, but offer arguably better views, however the higher the tag, the more privacy. Decor is tasteful and classic—think natural materials, wood and rattan, perfect for a tropical climate, and mod cons indulge your creature comforts. We love the outdoor tub (with hot water!) in the Seahill Cottages, but the pièces de résistance, is the vast beachfront all wooden suite with uninterrupted lagoon views, however late rises may be disturbed by the sunrise in the glass-fronted east-facing room.

The resort boasts two restaurants, one open to the public for lunch and dinner, ideal for a taste of the resort without the high price tag. The gleaming white sand “private” beach is kept spotlessly clean and guests score free use of snorkelling gear and kayaks to explore the reef. For days when the sea is not favourable, take a dip in the small swimming pool.

A good value offer for non guests, is a day beach package where you can enjoy the pristine sand and reef with use of kayaks, snorkelling equipment, beach towel, beach mat, swimming pool, WiFi and a soft drink for 100,000 rupiah, available from 11:00 to 18:00 (call ahead to book).

Breve Azurine Lagoon Retreat can arrange diving, island hopping and land based adventures, and pack a tasty picnic for your day’s exploring. For an island escape in this corner of the planet, the resort offers a special treat without the crowds of Bali or other popular beach digs, excellent honeymoon stuff.

If it’s not your honeymoon and beyond your means, more affordable Coco Huts provides the views and Ayu Hotel offers lovely rooms and great service.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
