Meize Hotel

Meize Hotel

Surprisingly good value

More on Bandung

Aside from the friendly and welcoming staff, our first impression of Meize Hotel was uninspiring and we almost didn’t bother viewing the rooms, yet we were pleasantly surprised at the good value offered by this seeming bog standard modern business style cheapie.

Travelfish says:

The five-storey modern block bags a decent central location on Jalan Sumbawa with the handy conveniences of an ATM and mini-mart in the foyer. Good sized tiled air-con rooms are clean and bright, and although windows are not huge they enjoy plenty of natural light. Bright modern styling features a cheery aqua coloured wall illustrated with white and yellow travel related line drawings contrasted with dark coloured wood laminate built-ins which include a headboard with side tables, a tiny corner desk and open hanging space. Beds are comfy and made up with quality white linen and aqua throw cushions, complementing the modern look. Lighting, switches and power points are adequate and where you expect and amenities include a flatscreen TV with cable channels, a kettle (but didn’t seem to supply tea bags or coffee) and a lap-top size safe. Simple clean bathrooms provide glass-screened hot-water showers, a reasonable amount of bench space and towel racks.

We didn’t view the Junior suite, but were informed that as well as adding a tad more space, it includes a sofa bed as well as a tub in the bathroom, a good option if you’re travelling with kids. Breakfast is included in some deals (and always on Saturdays), served buffet style at the rooftop “sky floor” which enjoys tremendous city views, unfortunately this great space is only open for breakfast.

Meize Hotel’s on-site spa offers a range of very good value treatments, open until 23:00, perfect for a relaxing massage after a hard day of exploring the city, and if you’ve missed dinner, evening room service is available too.

For a good value comfortable and convenient sleep in Bandung, Meize Hotel ticks most boxes. Alternatively, nearby Buton Backpacker Lodge offers good value private rooms for a similar deal, but with a more intimate ambience.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
