Adam’s Homestay is a special treat: secluded behind a high wall within a jungle-like tropical garden, crammed with tinkering water features, statues, fragrant flowering trees, napping cats and birdsong, just 100 metres from West Beach.

Here, a handful of double-storey bungalows house individually designed rooms bursting with personality. The stylish open-style interiors allow you to enjoy the serenity of the garden yet are far enough apart to feel private. Tiled floors and high ceilings keep it cool and breezy.

Rooms vary in size and layout, some are suitable for families, but all are air-con and have hot-water outdoor-style bathrooms, some with tubs. Traditional-style wooden furniture and mosquito-netted beds add to the tropical ambience and artworks make it homey. Rooms are clean, cosy and generally well maintained, though some are showing a bit of age but we think that just adds to the character. Facilities include a fridge and larger bungalows have dining seating and a kitchenette.

Within the grounds an inviting swimming pool is large enough for a short lap, although it doesn’t get a lot of shade and a covered bale offers a spot to rest out of the sun. Breakfast isn’t included in the rate, but is available as well as other home cooked meals in the pleasant open-air dining area. Boardgames, books and bike rental are at your disposal and friendly staff can organise laundry, transport and tours.

We love the quirky charm and tranquil backdrop, making Adam’s Homestay our top pick in Pangandaran. For a more hotel-style stay, with a bit of personality, Nyiur Indah Beach Hotel across from West Beach at the southern end of town is a decent alternative, or if your budget is a little tighter, Villa Angela and Mini Tiga Homestay are both full of charm.
