Big sparkly resort
Blink, and you could almost be in a Balinese resort, or indeed a resort in any tropical locale at The Arnawa Hotel.
This large 70-room hotel snares the wow factor as you walk past the lobby into the lush pool area that is the centrepiece of the hotel—think swaying palm trees, wafting frangipani, shady sun lounges and two large sparkling blue swimming pools.
The rooms, built in two double-story blocks face this verdant oasis. Long narrow interiors are generous, styled in a somewhat bland international modern tropical mode with shiny marble floors and a neutral palette. Two queen sized beds sit opposite a desk and flatscreen TV in the air-con rooms, and other amenities include a minibar, tea maker and safe. Glass doors open to the garden and pleasant private furnished balconies and terraces, flooding the rooms with natural light. Modern clean ensuite bathrooms are rather compact and feature double basins and glass screened hot-water showers.
The ambience is generally relaxed and calm, but as the rooms are somewhat close together, we can’t imagine it to be very soundproof and large groups of kids splashing in the swimming pool may not be everyone’s idea of a restful holiday.
Breakfast is included in the rate and served in the open-style restaurant facing the pool. Local, Chinese and Western meals are also served here and 24-hour room service is available. Staff are very welcoming and professional.
The Arnawa Hotel is about a 250 metre walk to the beach, so if you’d prefer your resort to come with a sea view, the huge 500-room Pantai Indah Resort Hotel Timur offers an ocean vista from some rooms and plenty of decent facilities, or for a more intimate local experience, you may enjoy a stay at Nyiur Indah Beach Hotel.

Sally spent twelve years leading tourists around Indonesia and Malaysia where she collected a lot of stuff. She once carried a 40kg rug overland across Java. Her house has been described as a cross between a museum and a library. Fuelled by coffee, she can often be found riding her bike or petting stray cats. Sally believes travel is the key to world peace.
