Opposite Pangandaran’s swimming beach at the national park end of town, Nyiur Indah Beach Hotel is an intimate and inviting midrange alternative to the brash modern high rise hotels nearby.

Sixteen rooms are tightly packed into a double-storey longhouse behind the open-stye street front dining area and swimming pool. Simple stylish air-con rooms feature a palette of pale neutrals with sandy coloured tiled floors and painted walls, golden wood and snowy white linen accented with traditional Javanese batik. Interiors are bright and space is adequate with facilities that include a flatscreen TV, minibar, and tea maker.

Upstairs rooms are accessed from the back with windows that overlook the frangipani trees and pool, shuttered to keep noise and light to a minimum at night, and the Deluxe ground floor rooms enjoy a small furnished terrace. Clean and modern ensuite bathrooms provide hot-water showers and ample bench space.
The delightful and shady freeform shaped swimming pool is a deep ocean blue with fountains and a shallow section for the kids and feels every bit a tropical paradise with waving palms and fragrant flowers. Sun lounges and seating invite you to kick back and forget the world. An included local-style buffet breakfast is served in the breezy open restaurant next to the pool.
Although the hotel is opposite the beach, stalls along the shore block the view, but the charming and hospitable owner mentioned that the local government are moving all beachfront stalls in 2018 to a new market building to the north of town, which will make Nyiur Indah Beach Hotel an even better option.

Published rates are more than double than those offered on booking sights, but we were informed to book direct for a good deal. Nyiur Indah Beach Hotel is popular with tour groups and can get busy in high season.
Alternates include Sunrise Beach Hotel on the east beach with similar styled rooms and more spacious grounds or for more of a resort feel with a terrific swimming pool, The Arnawa Hotel. Note that there’s another hotel in Pangandaran with a similar name, so check the location as the other doesn’t offer the same charm.
