More for seclusion than the beach
Via Vacare sits on the northern coast of the "finger" that juts out of the west coast of Gili Gede.
It can deliver on impressive views when the sun sinks below the rugged coastline. Perched above a retaining wall, reachable most easily by boat or by 10-15 minute walks from nearby villages, you’re really paying for the wooded solitude here and not surprisingly, the resort is a popular spot for yoga retreats. The resort was full when we swung by for a late afternoon sundowner but from the exterior they looked to be oversized solid affairs with thatched roofs and glassy double doors that allow one to take in the view from the bed (in some rooms). These are the smartest bungalows on the island. Accommodation come with full board and friends were advised of a two-night minimum stay when they went to make a reservation. Via Vacare will appeal to those looking for seclusion over white sand beaches.
