Family House is set off the north side of Jalan Raya Kuta and offers flashpacker to midrange rooms clustered around a compact swimming pool.
The Family House name doesn’t point to this place having a particularly family focus, but it’s sleepy and a little set back off the road. Rooms are a very smart -- we were first shown a deluxe suite which was of a very solid size, included a tub, and had distant ocean views. More back to earth, the superiors are well sized and look onto the pool and the single floor rooms beyond it. The swimming pool is more of a splash pool, but with plenty of frangipani and umbrellas it would be a nice place to escape the middle of the day heat. The restaurant is towards the front of the grounds and is in a different wooden, chilled-out style to the more modern rooms behind it. Staff were chatty and obliging -- be sure to ask for a discount if you’re a walk-in. While there are not safes in the rooms themselves, there is a safe at reception and it would be prudent to use it. Do not store/hide valuables in your room here.
