Spic and span
There’s maybe a Spanish hand in Kuta Baru and it shows with tasteful rooms looking over a lap pool in a lawn setting that runs alongside the resort’s restaurant.
Rooms are spic and span and decently sized, two to a block and overlooking the pool. They’re fitted out with a splash -- discerning art on the wall, a throw over the bed and stone-finished rainshower bathrooms. As with Kuta Mara, Kuta Baru is a compact block so you’ll probably get to know your neighbours, and the staff also are very friendly and chatty. No hammocks will be found, but two chairs on each deck give you a spot to chill. The cheaper rooms are fan-cooled (though you can pay more to have the air-con turned on), but the superiors struck us as better value for the standard. Kuta Baru will appeal to flashpacking couples looking for a social setting in the heart of Kuta -- the couple in the pool when we visited gave it a solid thumbs up! Rates are negotiable and you’ll find significant discounts online -- or just by asking when you show up. Recommended.
