Set on the ridge running back and separating the more southern Batu Layar from Batu Bolong, Sunset Lavinia delivers on views over the valley, the beach and in the distance Bali.
It makes for an impressive and secluded sundowner, miles away from the hassle and bustle of Senggigi’s beaches. Traffic noise though, especially on Sunday when all of Lombok seems to drive to Senggigi, can be a bit of a background annoyance. The hotel is a bit of an unusual setup -- the British and Indonesian couple who run it have their house above and a handful of rooms below their house, enjoying the view and a well-placed swimming pool. The good-sized rooms are immaculate, with above-standard fittings and furnishings, hot-water bathrooms and air-con throughout. Facilities include WiFi, TV and a minibar, plus an attached cafe area that offers equally good views. The included breakfast is a very solid affair. Sunset Lavinia is beyond comfortable walking distance of either the beach or Senggigi proper, so you’ll need either your own transport or a taxi for any exploring you have planned. Especially friendly -- and talkative -- staff. Rates are perhaps a little high for the setting, given the distance from the beach, but if you value comfort and cleanliness over all else, this is a good option. Check online for a competitive rate.
