The place has a more natural and local setting, with the five bungalows surrounded by gardens, a large lawn and local homes (which unfortunately means your stay could coincide with a karaoke night). Though it’s near the Nam Tha River, there are no river views. Like its sister property in Muang Sing, the bungalows are filled with tasteful natural touches like a bed frame made out of varnished logs, brick tile floor, bamboo thatch walls, rattan chairs, Tai Lue ethnic white cotton, hand-woven bed spreads and curtains. The 10 rooms are spacious and each has a private terrace. The attached bathrooms are tiled, have hot shower and flush toilets. The lighting is a bit poor and with such thin thatch walls, it would be very cold in December to February, but the room’s fireplace would help a little. There’s a restaurant that seems not to be used very much. Stay at Phou Iu III for a mini getaway from traffic, bricks and mortar. Head east from the night market and eventually there is a school and dirt road. Follow the dirt road and veer right. A 10-minute walk from town. The road is not lit at night so a torch comes in handy.
