Popular backpacker haunt
Located beside Cafe Toui on a road running between the main street and the Mekong, Kinnaly is a popular backpacker haunt and so it should be.
The rooms here are immaculately clean, complete with polished wooden floors, big hard beds with clean sheets, bright bathrooms with hardly any grime and a nice table and chair set for those who like to write or need to catch up on email – there’s free WiFi. There’s not much English spoken and the place would by no means be right for everyone, but for those who want a cheap and convenient location, it really is a good choice.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you'll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
