Conveniently located on a quiet backstreet sandwiched between the Mekong and the main road, Namsok Guesthouse 3 is a budget-friendly place with free albeit spotty WiFi and it’s as cheap as it gets in Luang Prabang for a room with a private bathroom.
The rooms contain springy beds, some have old satellite TVs, a couple of pieces of furniture and large hot water bathrooms with wash basins. Some of the bathrooms feature creative design and plumbing typical of budget guesthouses in Laos, with the showerhead positioned so that the water goes on everything but you. This quirk aside, Namsok 3 is one of the best budget options that also allows guests to choose air-con.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you'll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
