Low budget on the Mekong
Along with its neighbour Khongsavath Guesthouse, this is a great guesthouse for those looking for a budget place on the Mekong.
It’s a family-run affair with great big rooms on the second floor that have polished hardwood floors and a more upmarket feel than many of the budget places scattered throughout town. The rooms feature small windows, air-con, free WiFi, bar fridges, tiny tables and chairs and very respectable bathrooms. Rooms on the ground floor are less charming since they have tile floors. Overall, it is very comfortable. The main problem about this place as with many others on the Mekong is price. In the high season, some rooms go for $50 which is a few dollars too expensive for this quality. But during the low season, a room for $30 is more reasonable. The owners are willing to negotiate on their advertised rates and knocking $5-10 off these will get you a pretty good deal. Breakfast is included, served riverside.

After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you’ll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
