Good cheap option
This is another traditional Lao-style house converted into a guesthouse, except Paphai hasn’t been renovated and offers only basic accommodation.
Rooms are small and fan-cooled with simple furniture and firm beds. Shared bathrooms have hot showers and Western-style toilets. The walls are made of bamboo so every noise carries, including the critters scurrying about in the roof. Nonetheless it’s charmingly authentic with a great location and lovely garden. A highlight is sitting on the steps at 16:00 while the novice monks at the wat across the street play a percussive herald to the moon’s cycles. A good cheap option right in the centre of town.
