More on Muang Ngoi

Lerdkeo Guesthouse (also spelled Lertkeo) was our most surprising find in Muang Ngoi. The property doesn’t look attractive as you approach from the back, but the row of bungalows facing the river are all of a modern construction and finer than your average place.

Travelfish says:

There’s wooden floors and elegant wood furniture. Concrete walls have been softened with crisp white paint, white cotton linens, an extra blanket in the cold season and wooden wainscoting—yes, wainscoting in a Muang Ngoi bungalow, who would have thought? It’s all tidy and neatly presented. Bungalows have fan, windows with curtains, mosquito net and a spacious bathroom befitting of a bricks and mortar guesthouse rather than a bungalow, equipped with a Western toilet and hot shower. Each room has its own balcony and a view over the verdant riverbanks to the water and mountains, with a chair and table to park yourself in and enjoy it all. This solid accommodation with a view does come at a price.

Flashpackers on a tighter budget, don’t despair. We weren’t expecting much from the rooms in the main building yet we were pleasantly surprised by the three rooms. Though part of the family home, these rooms are cordoned off on their own and are simple yet comfortable, also sporting wood floors and wainscoting, fine new wood furnishings, white cotton linens, windows with security bars, towel rack and a big, clean ensuite bathroom with hot shower. These rooms are an excellent deal.

Communication was a bit difficult when we visited, which is not unusual for Muang Ngoi. Also, Lerdkeo doesn’t have an attached restaurant with river terrace or any communal hangout spot like nearby Nicksa’s Place. So expect a quieter place—or be brave, break the invisible barrier and chat with the neighbouring balcony. Lerdkeo is in the second half of the main street, about a 250 metre walk from top of the boat landing stairs. It’s not as close as Rainbow Guesthouse but Lerdkeo’s rooms are simply better.

Note that at the time of research Agoda was placing Lerdkeo is a very incorrect position on their map—it is in Muang Ngoi village—not up near dam 3!
