Slightly better than average on a budget
Another budget joint in the middle of town, Dockhoun Guesthouse presents clean rooms with a bed and bedside table, thick blanket, clean tiled floor, hot-water bathroom and overall a feel that’s slightly better than most other joints in town.
The owners are very responsive. This is another popular place which fills up in high season so you might have to book ahead. Free WiFi is available and it’s just a three-minute walk from the dock. It’s good value and is far better and cheaper than Donevilasack Guesthouse’s rooms with private bathroom. Their restaurant at the back also has a pretty river view. Heading up the road, look for the small neon green building on the right hand side.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you'll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
