One of the better choices in town
Formerly known as Villa Salika, Sarika Guesthouse is the first guesthouse you’ll meet on the right as you make your way up the hill from the boat dock.
It’s a big old white building with a mix of tiled and wooden-floored rooms which are pretty good for the price. Clean hot-water bathrooms, saggy spring beds and a couple of scraps of furniture all make an appearance and for most people it will be enough for a night and it’s better than many others in town – though at this price point, we prefer Monesavanh Guesthouse. Some rooms are so big you could do cartwheels in them. As with other places, ask for a discount if it’s not busy.

Cindy Fan is a Canadian writer/photographer and author of So Many Miles, a website that chronicles the love of adventure, food and culture. After falling in love with sticky rice and Mekong sunsets, in 2011 she uprooted her life in Toronto to live la vida Laos. She’s travelled to over 40 countries and harbours a deep affection for Africa and Southeast Asia. In between jaunts around the world, she calls Laos and Vietnam home where you’ll find her traipsing through rice paddies, standing beside broken-down buses and in villages laughing with the locals.
