Kiat Ngong Wetland Bungalow

Budget bungalow

More on Ban Khiet Ngong

If Kingfisher Ecolodge’s rooms are out of reach budget-wise, Kiat Ngong Wetland Bungalow three wooden bungalows are the ticket.

Travelfish says:

This guesthouse is located on the road into Khiet Ngong village, 500 metre shy of the centre. The bungalows boast a surprising amount of comfort inside. There’s a big bed with a nearby electrical outlet, one light, overhead rotating fan, a glass window that can be opened and curtains. We even appreciate the effort with the decorative pedestal and vase of fake flowers. The private bathroom is basic. It has a western toilet, cold shower and sink. All this is contained within sturdy wooden plank walls and a metal roof, inside tastefully concealed with a bamboo thatch ceiling.

Best of all, it lives up to its name: the porch overlooks a wetland edged by trees. It’s tranquility combined with nature on a budget. The thing missing is a mosquito net and more bungalows—with only three, it does fill up. We suspect that if a group arrives at Kingfisher Ecolodge, the guide and driver would stay here.

A homestay or Kiat Ngong Wetland Bungalows are good options for budget travellers. In terms of formal accommodation, it’s the best option in the village because, well, it’s the only option. If Kiat Ngong is full, we inspected a few other guesthouses in the centre and they were grim; unless there are drastic improvements, we’d certainly recommend a homestay over those.

There is an attached restaurant but the village is so quiet, it’s probably best to arrange the meal in advance with the owner so preparations can be made.
