Road beside Paksong market, beside Vang Ngao River and Paksong Guesthouse, Bolaven Plateau T: (020) 5579 0613
Located 800 metres from the main road, Savanna Guesthouse is comfortable, clean and well-maintained—always a good sign.
The cheaper rooms are cosy, have a small window, electric heated shower and hardwood floor which will feel good underfoot on a chilly Paksong night. Splash out 20,000 kip more and get a hugely spacious room with tile floor and many conveniences such as large glazed windows, table and chair, box TV and clothes drying rack. Instead of a standard wetroom bathroom like in the small rooms, these ones are large and sport a separate shower area, hooks and towel racks galore. Rooms have a sliding lock for extra security and WiFi.
It’s a bit of a distance to the main road where all the eateries are, so you’ll have to motorbike to food or walk in the dark. Another drawback is the nearby karaoke joint. Hopefully you can deal with some warbling and wailing as this is Paksong’s top budget option.
The easiest way to find Savanna is to look for the large Lao Development Bank (LDB) and turn onto the road directly in front of it, which runs past the market. Better yet, take the next road east of it, just past Simmaly Guesthouse. This road is in far better condition. Savanna is before the bridge, beside Paksong Guesthouse.
