Centrally located budget pick
For budget accommodation located in the town centre, Southida Guesthouse is the best option in Tha Khaek.
It’s just two blocks from the night market, one road back from the river and despite the worn out facade, the air-con rooms have not changed a whole lot over the years. There’s no doubt that these are budget rooms, but they’re more comfortable than those at the Khammouane Inter and only cost slightly more. Rooms come with tiled floors, big, slightly stiff beds, cable TVs, windows, wooden furniture to spread out on and clean hot water bathrooms. Some rooms have a mini-fridge.
Southida is centrally located, just a few steps to the river, Wang Wang’s motorbike rental, a couple of good eateries and the central square/night market where you’ll find tuk tuks hanging out. The guesthouse’s biggest selling point is the convenient location, suitable for budget travellers wanting something slightly above barebones cheapie.
