Our rating:

Tolex has been around for a few years now and has grown to have a few accommodation options that will suit different budgets.

Those who are really counting every kip can opt for the wooden bungalows, which don’t look like much from the outside but are actually quite cute and charming inside, with a sunny personality from cheery yellow and cream paint. The bungalows have windows, a handy bedside table and vanity, overhead rotating fan and private bathroom with electric heated shower.

For those who prefer solid bricks and mortar for shelter, the modern buildings deliver the typical no frills Lao guesthouse experience, with tile floor, air-con or fan, box TV, table and wetroom hot water bathroom. The white cotton bed linens looked clean and fresh.

We received a warm welcome at both Tolex and their neighbour Papao Guesthouse. Papao’s modern rooms do have the edge on Tolex. The main reason you’d choose Tolex is to save money in the budget friendly bungalows or if you prefer a bit of greenery since it has a lawn.
