Lak Xao doesn’t exactly elicit a warm, fuzzy feeling and the accommodation in town is much the same.
Look past Souriya 2 Hotel’s impersonal facade to discover the guesthouse-style rooms are comfortable for a night. Rooms have high ceilings and those that face the front have natural light from windows and access to the balcony. There are a surprising number of mod-cons such as bedside table, lamp and plug, air-con, mini-fridge, desk, flatscreen TV, WiFi and beds with thick blankets and clean linens, including a top sheet.
The bathrooms are a little tired though functional, with a bathtub/shower combo with a large tank heater which generally delivers hot water and pressure better than those small electric heaters usually found at guesthouses.
Souriya 2 Hotel is on 1E, close to the major intersection with Route 8, which also contains the tourism information office. It’s adjacent to the older, original Souriya, and is just around the corner from the bus station.
