Travelfish says:

Camping may not be to everyone’s taste but then again, camping beside a waterfall in Laos is a rare opportunity and for some, infinitely more appealing than staying in a generic guesthouse in Sekong.

As a tourist hangout spot, it’s excellent. A boardwalk from the main parking/entrance and restaurant leads through the forest past little waterfalls, picnic areas and swimming holes until you reach the falls, water pouring over a wide rock ledge. We were told by staff that you can set your tent up anywhere you like along the water’s edge. The price of the tent includes a mat and in rainy season, tents can be set up in the covered deck of the building. We’d imagine that in the hot dry season and rainy season, it can be very hot in the tents.

If you have extra days on your journey, this place is a strong contender for where to spend one of them as a rest day. There’s a river beach and a few cascades within an easy swim. When we inspected late 2016, everything was looking great. Staff were sweeping leaves, the toilets were clean, there were kayaks and pleasant picnic areas and no rubbish.

We were also told staff come early in the morning, are available until around 19:00 to cook restaurant orders, while there is security overnight. Given the remote location and natural surrounds, the staff doing a good job is key to have a tidy campground and not a dirty one. The conditions could change at any moment—nature wins without constant upkeep—so we will be cautious in setting expectations too high.

For now it’s great. Those who don’t mind roughing it for a beautiful location, this is it.
