Just off the dusty seaside road of Pasir Bogak is Standard Camp Pangkor, easily identified by their colourful A-frame cabanas.

The rather petite dwellings look more like wooden tents alongside the more traditional style cement bungalows they also offer. The cabanas themselves are no more than a mattress for two, a small window and a fan, but for 40 ringgit per night who can complain? Their more standard option comes with a double bed, an ensuite cold-water shower and air-con at a higher rate, but still affordable at 135 ringgit. WiFi is available in their open-air common area. Although Bogak beach is across the road, Standard Camp has no sea view or beach access due to ongoing development and an ugly metal fence that’s been erected by a future beachfront resort. But a10-minute walk up the road leads to the sandy shores of the tranquil water. A handful of restaurants in the area offer inexpensive local dishes as well as cold beer and spirits.
