Top Cenang luxury pick
Pantai Cenang, Langkawi T: (04) 952 8888
One of the few Langkawi resorts that front the most pristine stretch of white sandy beach in Pantai Cenang, Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort takes the luxury five-star cake. If you’ve got the cash, this is a reasonable deal for its pricepoint, with a great location as well as style and space.
Located on a stretch of property at the beginning of Pantai Cenang across from the picturesque Laman Padi Museum paddy, the resort is flanked by another five-star resort and a small river that will happily keep them from being engulfed by further development.
The resort’s lobby is open-air, Malaysian style, from the slate floors and massive columns to the high-trussed ceilings. Impressive in size but still welcoming, the Pelangi Lounge shares the breezy lobby where arriving guests are greeted with a welcome drink. Traditional architecture is repeated throughout the expansive, palm-shaded grounds, with individual Malay buildings designed to reflect a kampung; the resort does not feel overbuilt or crowded.
Each of the chalets is home to various accommodation options and their rustic external appearance belies the contemporary style of the individual rooms. The decor features dark wood furniture and accents, with contemporary art and fixtures offset against white walls and tropical flora motifs completing the stylish look.
Beds are large and luxurious, but there is ample space for a small desk and a comfortable settee. Each room comes with a minibar, flatscreen TV, safe, ironing board, bathrobes as well as private verandas. Bathrooms have slate floors, which contrast with the white tub and fixtures. Dark wood casement windows over the sink and bath lend an airy feel and provide tropical views.
Free WiFi is beamed throughout the resort, and there’s a kid-friendly pool, mini-golf, a well-equipped gym and, as the name suggests, a spa. They even have a chocolate shop plus a hair salon on-site and a slew of taxis at the resort’s entrance. From their Spice Market restaurant to fabulous Cba Restaurant and Bar, delicious food is always available, and they are quite generous with their happy hours so your pina colada tab won’t break the bank.
Meritus Pelangi has just enough breathing room to almost qualify as remote, but is actually within walking distance of a well stocked sundry shop and plenty of additional eateries, as well as a few local beachfront pubs. But considering they have one of the most comfortable sunset views in Pantai Cenang and nightly music you may well be inclined to just stay put and relax in five-star style.
