Last off the rank between Watercolours and the southern bushwhacking trail to Tuna Bay sits Mama's Chalet, a slightly more modern-looking version of the 'typical' A-framed Perhentian budget chalet.
With 24 years in the business and under the watchful eye of Aziz and Jimie -- two of the most knowledgable, helpful and really funny guys we've met in a while -- Mama's is a good spot. Rooms are basic but quite spacious and clean with attached baths. Cleanliness is apparently a priority at Mama's with the additional decor of pastel coloured plastic waste baskets attached to each veranda – they seem to make them his and her bungalows! The huts are in rows running parallel to the beach and note that some face away from the water. There is a laidback feel to this family-run spot and the rates are the lowest in the area, just undercutting the nearby Watercolours. Their on-site restaurant is relaxed and slow WiFi-equipped. Overall, this is a good choice for families as well as budget travellers and you're only a 10-minute walk to PIR Beach. Recommended. Aziz and Jimie both told us they had shut down their website and only took reservations by phone, but a website does exist -- with different phone numbers – so we're not clear if it is an imposter or not, but have included it just in case.
