Compact and clean
People often miss Racecourse Road, thinking Serangoon Road is the extent of Little India, but there is plenty of great South Asian food out here too, and now a good spot to stay as well. The Vintage Inn is a pod-style hostel with two floors of one- and two-person pods overlooking Racecourse Road.
They were full when we visited, but they were still happy to show us through, pointing out both the one- and two-person pods. Each pod has a privacy curtain, but there is no fan inside the pod. When we mentioned this (pods with curtains can get uncomfortably warm without one) staff explained they keep the air-con on all the time in the pod rooms to keep the beds chilled. Personal lockers are underneath each lower pod and coat hangers are provided. The pod room we were shown was glass-fronted and overlooked Racecourse Road, so we’d imagine it would catch some traffic noise when traffic builds up outside. The location has some excellent South Asian eateries nearby and you’re just a couple of minutes’ walk from Little India SMRT. Vintage Inn lacks the oversupply of common space that Bunc has, but this is still a solid choice and online reviews have been very positive.
