The Park Saladaeng is a pint-size hotel set in a quiet residential neighbourhood within easy walking distance of Sala Daeng BTS station.

If you prefer intimate and homely accommodation rather than larger hotels, this is an excellent choice.

Fronted by a cluster of greenery bending over the front porch, the tiny lobby was staffed by a very cheerful young man who spoke good English when we stopped by. All of the rooms were full -- as is often the case -- but we were able to peek into a couple of the ones being cleaned and they appeared bright and immaculately kept. Rooms come in a few different sizes, all with air-con, soft beds, windows, fridges, safes, coffee/tea facilities, spotless bathrooms with showers behind glass, and widescreen LCD TVs with several HD channels in English. The pricier studio room comes with added space, kitchenette and circular daybed.

The hotel’s minimalist design is refreshingly tasteful. A small common lounge includes a long daybed with Northern Thai embroidered pillows across from black-and-white framed prints of traditional Thai scenes that you might see in a temple mural. There’s no lift, but the open-sided hardwood stairs are a pleasure to walk on. The atmosphere is soothing and the residential location ensures peace and quiet within a five-minute walk of bustling Silom Road.

As part of its deliberately relaxing ambiance, Park Saladaeng only accepts guests who are older than 17; families with younger children could opt for the nearby Inn Saladaeng or Mirth Sathorn Hotel, both of which have similar rates. Park Saladaeng is perfect for mature couples and solo travellers seeking a guaranteed quiet night’s sleep in a generally frenetic area.
