The tacky Aran Mermaid looms behind the bus station and offers Aran's only midrange accommodation complete with professional reception and bellhops.
The wall-to-wall carpeted standard we checked out felt a little worn down, but it was packed with amenities like air-con, TV, fridge with mini bar, desk, easy chair, bureau, coffee-maker and free WiFi. The bathroom was a little grungy, not to the point that we'd be turned away if it were a budget spot but we would expect better for these prices. The deluxe gets you more space and a seating area with couch but comes with the same depressing green floral patterned curtains covering windows that face some trees behind the hotel, if you're lucky, or the bus station parking lot, if you're not. On the bright side, the hotel offers private karaoke rooms where according to the hotel's brochure you can sing your stresses away, and it's a convenient locale if hopping off a late night bus and wanting a comfy night's sleep.
