Decent rooms off the beach
Located an easy stroll from Ao Tubtim along a dirt road, Sky Friend Guesthouse is worth considering if you want nothing more than a cheapish air-con room to sleep in.
The family-run establishment has about a dozen rooms set on the second floor of a concrete house fronted by a large shared terrace with a few tables. The double room that we inspected was a straightforward deal with air-con, free WiFi, a window, firm bed, fridge, TV and hot-water wet bathroom. We also peeked into the front family room equipped with two double beds. Both were clean, if a bit sterile. These rooms are not winning any design awards but, for the price, they offer affordable comforts for travellers who don’t mind staying off the beach.
The value is solid relative to similar properties elsewhere on Samet, and we were offered 200 baht off the normal rates (listed below) for no apparent reason. The mother and daughter who run the place speak minimal English but were cheerful when we passed through. If you prefer a fan room for around 700 baht a night, the neighbouring Ban Leelawadee Guesthouse has a few.
