Friendly and central
Klong Kloi Cottage’s beach bum vibe extends into affordable fan and air-con bungalows and a good restaurant at the centre of the namesake beach.
Standing just back from the beach, the small but well-kept wood-and-thatch bungalows come with firm hardwood floors supporting beds draped in mosquito nets along with several screened windows, hot-water wet bathrooms and hammocks strung up on the porches. Though similar to some of the cheaper bungalows at places set further from the beach, these are probably the best-value fan bungalows found within steps of Khlong Kloi’s sand.
While they were full during our most recent visit, green air-con bungalows with cube designs also looked small but do bag you sea views from the porches. You’ll also find two family options: a large and simple beachfront bungalow and a surprisingly luxurious and elegant family room with fridge, rain showerhead, flatscreen TV and traditional Thai art on dark-wood walls.
Staffers who tend to smile often do a great job of taking care of guests and other diners at the restaurant featuring tables spread over the sand. We’ve heard good things about the food and the location makes it easy to wander over to other worthwhile spots like Bamboo Hut Restaurant and Mr Tee’s reggae bar. Free WiFi and laid-back beach dogs will also vie for your attention.
Klong Kloi Cottage’s fan rooms often fill up in high season. In that case, nearby Yuyu Golden Beach’s concrete bungalows built close together are not bad alternatives. Otherwise you can wander into Khlong Kloi village to check out a dozen cheap bungalow joints in one place—Yak, Santisook, T Garden and Tree House Cottages are all worth a look.
