If you’re on a budget, want your own bathroom and don’t mind a 10-minute walk to the beach, Cozy House should be high on your list.

The fan-cooled wood bungalows come with simple wet bathrooms and mattresses on polished wood platforms draped in mosquito nets. Windows are fully screened in but some bathrooms are not, so keep that door closed—mozzies can be a real nuisance in these parts. Hammocks and chairs furnish front porches tucked into the twisting mangrove branches.

The rest of Cozy’s rooms are set a little further up the river and come with air-con and small TVs, we were told. Those in the concrete longhouse back up close to the mangroves, while freestanding bungalows made of wood and concrete sit on the other side of a small lawn with very little shade.

All rooms were full during our most recent visit, but we did meet a Canadian guest who was pleased with his stay. We certainly liked the feel of the place, from the welcoming staff to the relaxing setting.

Take the stilted walkway past the spirit house and into the mangroves to find a series of large common decks and pavilions that stretch right up to the river, where kayaks are free for guests. The largest chill space features notably comfy sofas along with a bunch of tables with a wonderful mangrove/river outlook. There’s also a small restaurant and WiFi is free.

Cozy is often full so do make a reservation in high season. It comes up third on the left on the road to Khlong Chao Waterfall, just after Ban Klong Jao Homestay and Mangrove Bungalow. If you get here and find that all of these places are full, keep huffing it another half kilometre up the road to PD Guesthouse.
