Another great family spot that has more character than its name suggests, Palm Beach is set on a quiet and idyllic stretch of eastern Ao Kao beach.
A few coconut trees shade the powdery white sand, and the beach bar can serve drinks straight to your hammock or lounger. There's also a small but inviting jacuzzi and swimming pool where several kids were having a blast splashing each other during our visit. Palm Beach is arguably the best family option on Ko Maak thanks to generously sized bright yellow villas, some with a circular design and others two-storey structures. Extra beds are free of charge. Rooms are simply decorated but fully equipped with comfortable beds, huge glass windows, flatscreen satellite TVs, safes, fridges and spacious hot water bathrooms. All rooms have rooftop terraces that are perfect for some quality card-playing time with the family. We arrived to find the laid back German owner in a tie-dye shirt, with Pink Floyd playing over the beachfront restaurant's soundsystem. Palm Beach closes during the rainy season. When they're open, you can stay for a week and get the seventh night free.
