This intimate resort's quirkily innovative name tells you where the two owners are from (Thailand and the American state of Idaho).
It sets the tone for what is very much a distinctive experience. Perched atop a high hill with great views of Ao Suan Yai and Ko Kham, Thaidaho has an interesting Latin theme going with its earthy yellow villas and dark red trim. Hammocks are strung around a lawn decorated with traditional Thai rain collection vases below the palm trees. Rooms are cool and immaculate, with tile floors, soft beds, air-con and fans, wall-size windows to let in the outstanding views and small front patios. The owners try to cater to single budget travellers by offering single beds in the largest “flex room”, though a single group can also rent out the whole room. The on-site Vista Cafe does an eclectic mix of Western and Thai food along with Thaidaho's signature baked goods. If you like the hilltop setting and are willing to pay more for a swimming pool and TV, neighbouring Islanda Resort is also a good choice.
