The ground floor of this rag-tag backpacker favourite is home to a great nightspot where the Sticky Rice Blue Band puts on weekly performances that draw regulars from across the island. The large common space includes rustic wood lofts with floor cushions, tie-dye hammocks, driftwood scattered artistically on walls and portraits of rock icons like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. Upstairs, a small but decent collection of dirt-cheap rooms get you a bed, fan, window and basic shared bathroom. Obviously this place is not suited to those seeking peace and quiet after dark. If Stone Free is full but you’re set on staying in the thick of party-ville, nearby Jae Gun Hut has rustic fan bungalows with cold-water bathrooms for 400 baht in high season.
