Set along a mangrove-lined coast on a meadow shaded by coconut trees, French-run Little Gipsy has a small collection of simple dark violet wood bungalows with fans, double beds draped in mosquito nets, private cold water bathrooms and front porches with hammocks.

But what really draws people here are the quiet atmosphere and artsy yet unpretentious vibe, which is embodied by the old wooden fishing boat that was wheeled here after it was retired from life on the sea and now serves as dining and chill space. Little Gipsy’s tasty home-style meals can also be enjoyed at a few shaded tables next to the shack that serves as both kitchen and reception. The welcoming owners also offer guitars, a volleyball net, kayaks and snorkelling trips on small, private boats operated by local fishermen. While there’s no beach, anyone can use the one at nearby Karang Bayview for free.
