More on Phanom Rung

In business for over two decades, family-owned Honey Inn knows exactly what travellers coming to Nang Rong are looking for.

Travelfish says:

Owner Kris speaks very good English, offering decent hand-drawn maps of the area, motorbikes for rent and some very reasonably priced tours of the various ruins scattered around southern Buriram and Surin provinces.

Situated in a semi-circle around a roofed car park or up on the second floor, rooms are basic but well kept and quite solid for the prices. They come with firm spring beds on tile floors, tiny tables, windows with light-blue drapes, TVs, two electrical outlets and wall-mounted fans in addition to air-con (if you opt for it). Small hot-water bathrooms have tops that are open to the rest of the room, with sinks situated just outside next to the tables. The free WiFi worked very well for us. Doors and locks are flimsy but valuables can be left with Kris, who runs a small music shop on the premises and usually hangs around strumming his guitar or giving lessons to local kids. A few couches are set up in front of the rooms, and generously sized 50-baht breakfasts are served at a large communal table in a lobby that doubles as the family’s living room.

The location is a little out of the way, down a side lane on the northern side of Highway 24, but several food shops are within easy walking distance and Kris provides free pick up and drop off at the bus station. Recommended.
