Modern flashpacker option
A couple of kilometres east of town along the main highway on the way to Phanom Rung, the Akelada is a fairly large and modern hotel with all of the creature comforts.
Immaculate rooms come in a few different sizes, all with a sleek design that incorporates comfy beds on glossy-white tile or hardwood floors, polished wooden accents and wall-size windows. Large bathrooms come with futuristic-looking toilets and rainshowers. Wide LCD TV, mini-fridge, safe, air-con and WiFi come standard. Suites bag you more space to go with beige and grey sofas and chairs -- a flash of colour would have been nice. The hotel covers two large buildings and includes a swimming pool, fitness centre and restaurant where complimentary breakfast is served. Staff can speak some English and can help to arrange a driver to take you to the ruins, though the hotel is really best suited to travellers who have their own wheels. In the same price range, you could also consider the older Phanomrungburi Hotel or Suan Mak Resort. Shop around online for deals.
