Terrific flashpacker value
Don’t judge the long-running Khon Kaen Hotel by its featureless white concrete facade -- it underwent a major renovation in recent years and is now one of the city’s sleeker hotels on the inside.
For the price, the revamped rooms are far better than many similar options, like the nearby Piman Garden, and they represent great value in the flashpacker range. Accessed by a shiny lift, the rooms that we checked out were done up with fresh wall-to-wall carpets, fridges, free WiFi, sharp grey-cloth lanterns, large windows and wide LCD TVs built into a glossy dark-wood section of the wall that matched the desks, bureaus and headboards behind the comfortable beds. Clean bathrooms come with all-modern appliances and rain showers behind curtains. Receptionists greeted us with big smiles and the staff here has a very good reputation. Buffet breakfast is served in a spacious dining area just off a large lobby outfitted with traditional Thai wood furniture. You can save 150 baht per person by opting out of the breakfast, which is automatically included if you book online. The hotel has a good location between Klang Mueang and Na Mueang roads, but removed from the noisy traffic on a side street.
