Good family rooms
One of the largest hotels on Chai Khong Road, Suk Somboon occupies an airy wooden building with an expansive ground-floor restaurant and open-air hallways leading to a range of different rooms on the second floor.
All rooms come with polished wood floors and walls, high ceilings, generous windows with river views, firm beds, tiny TVs, fridges, desks and air-con. A few different sizes are available, including rooms with multiple beds that represent solid value for families. Wet bathrooms are simple and with showers situated close to the toilets. Several of the more expensive rooms have large balconies overlooking the river. Guests receive a 40-baht discount on bicycle rental. The man who showed us around was straightforward but friendly, though as with most places in Chiang Khan, English is not a strong suit. Smack in the middle of Chai Khong Road, the place is very easy to find thanks to its large red-and-white sign that says HOTEL in English. Directly across the street, Husband and Wife Guesthouse has received very good reports but was unfortunately closed when we passed through.
