Intimate riverside spot
A few kilometres south of Indochine Market, an Aussie/Thai couple offer a couple of very comfortable rooms in their big and beautiful riverside house set along the Mekong.
After being met by a troupe of yipping toy poodles, guests are led through a large common living room and kitchen before heading up some stairs or out back to the rooms. We checked out the upper floor version and found it to be very solid for the price; we were told that the ground-floor room is a bit smaller but has the added bonus of direct access to the small swimming pool and riverside terrace. Both rooms sport very comfy king-size beds, large TVs with many English channels and DVD players, sofas, desks, numerous tables and lamps, ceiling fans in addition to air-con, fridges, walk-in closets, massive bathrooms and wall-size glass doors opening onto wide furnished terraces with river views. Rates include a made-to-order breakfast and we found that owner Don cares a great deal about the quality of Western and Thai food served at the on-site Waterfront Restaurant. He also offers a full bar and some good conversation. The location a fairly long way down the riverfront road means that this probably isn’t a good choice if you don’t have your own wheels.
