Great rooms and location
The P is a newish cafe and hotel with half a dozen rooms reached by a narrow stairway and key-card entrance.
Young Thai staff keeps things artsy with a vintage piano and funky photos in the ground-floor coffee shop, and at least one of them can speak a little English. While the hipster vibe doesn’t extend upstairs, rooms are spacious and very bright thanks to large glass doors with wood trim opening onto private balconies overlooking the low-key lane down below. You also get a firm but reasonable quality bed, desk, LCD TV, mini-fridge and free WiFi that actually works at a decent speed. Wet bathrooms are typical but large enough for most, with hot water and modern appliances. There’s also a rooftop chill space with river views, and a limited number of bicycles are available for rent. With the riverfront, the clock tower and a bunch of good restaurants and bars all a stone’s throw away, the location is fantastic so long as you don’t mind the lack of a river view from your room. If The P is full or you need parking, the nearby 777 Hometel has darker but similarly equipped rooms for roughly the same rates.
