Good riverfront value
Located along the riverfront on the quiet north side of town, Baan Rim Khong is a small contemporary Thai-style hotel offering great value for comfy rooms.
All of them sleep two and go for the same price, so make sure to opt for an upstairs room with river-view balcony rather than one of the darker ground-floor editions. While lacking any hint of art, rooms are clean and equipped with soft beds on white-tile floors, air-con, LCD TVs, desks, fridges and hot-water wet bathrooms. Appliances appeared fairly new and the rooms we checked out were well kept. Though it does have a small ground-floor cafe, the hotel is best suited to self-sufficient travellers who only need a comfy and cheap place to sleep. Several excellent riverside restaurants and minor attractions like the Governor’s Residence and St Anna’s Cathedral are within walking distance, though the clock tower and night market will require a 15- to 20-minute huff. The hotel has a car park. If you don’t have your own wheels, we’d suggest walking downtown to rent a bicycle if staying out here. The sign is posted only in Thai script but the woman who showed us around spoke some English. If you don’t need the riverfront location, the nearby Dahla Hotel (also sign only in Thai) on Soi Adunyathan has similar rooms for 50 baht cheaper.
