Cheap, central and lots of character
Enjoying a central location between the bus station and Tha Sadej market, the long-running Sawasdee has more character than most.
The old and atmospheric wood house feels more like a museum when you first enter, with high ceilings and collections of antiques displayed behind glass panes in antiquated dark wood bureaus. Head further back and you enter a cool, spacious and partially open-air common area with several sofas. This is where the reasonably well-kept and comfortable air-con rooms are located, each with hot water in private bathrooms to go with firm beds, TVs and windows. Fan rooms are small and simple, relying on shared cold bathroom facilities. Some lack windows; others have them but are located right over the street and can be noisy in the morning. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the owner welcoming and helpful.
