Modern digs just west of town
The MT is a serviced apartment style place located down a quiet side lane near the corner of Rat Phattana and Suk Kasem roads.
The location is best for travellers with their own wheels, but it’s not so far that walking is impossible and plenty of motorbike taxis hang around at the nearby old bus station. Comfortable and spotless rooms are set in a three-storey newish building and have a modern feel, with small LCD TVs, decent-quality beds, mini-fridges and desks on tile floors. Medium-size wet bathrooms with hot water are standard issue for Thailand. The rooms lack any hint of character, though none of Sakhon’s hotels are winning any design awards. There’s no lift, so take a ground-floor room if steps aren’t for you. The woman who greeted us in the tiny reception area was welcoming but spoke minimal English. To get here, head north off Suk Kasem Road into Soi 13, then take the second left and MT Place will be on the left. A sign on the main road is only in Thai, but it does include the phone numbers. The building itself has “MT Place” written in big letters across the front.
