Baan Rare Guesthouse

Baan Rare Guesthouse

Artsy digs in an interesting area

More on Udon Thani

As an extension to the owner’s artistic furniture shop, Baan Rare has brought some style to Udon’s budget accommodation scene.

Travelfish says:

The intimate guesthouse utilises a mix of faded wood, bamboo, exposed bricks and polished concrete to nail down a rustic-vintage aesthetic. While the private room that we checked out was on the small side, we really dug the hardwood accents, funky art, antique furnishings and shaggy pillows on the day beds. It was also very clean and equipped with firm bed, acceptably sized hot-water bathroom and LCD TV, but no fridge. The cheerful owners also offer a mixed four-bed air-con dorm with mattresses that are wider and thicker than usual on sturdy wooden frames, and more than enough shared hot-water bathrooms on the same floor. The bunks do not come with private reading lamps or outlets, but for the price we’d still probably choose Baan Rare over Asia Backpackers. Though far from the old bus and train station, the location puts you in the middle of Udon’s most pleasant area, with Wat Phothisomphon across the street and Nong Prajak Park an easy walk away. Quality bicycles can be rented and a shared common area with tables is great for hanging around and surfing the free WiFi. If you prefer a serviced apartment setup, you might consider a 600-baht room at Takanta Place, which is a five-minute walk west of Baan Rare.
