The Green Park Grand has a wide variety of clean rooms that were the best we saw in Yasothon, but only if you don’t mind staying a couple of kilometres north of downtown and further from the rocket festival grounds.

This is a large property with a couple of buildings and while the lime-green trim and huge portico topped by orange lettering reminded us of the entrance to Morchit bus terminal, it’s all more modern than most hotels in Yaso. A trio of uniformed receptionists were polite to us in a lobby fronted by tinted glass windows that extend to a huge, characterless restaurant, where the included breakfast buffet is served.

Set in a two-floor building that looks like a sidekick to the main four-floor affair, the standard room that we inspected lacked decoration but was bright, spacious and had the look and smell of thorough cleanings. The bed felt comfortable and we reckon the air-con unit, fridge, hot-water kettle and TV were all purchased in the last decade. It also had a balcony and curtained shower stall with hot water in the clean bathroom.

Family rooms come with two single beds and one king bed, and an extra bed can be added to any room for a reasonable 300 baht. All rates include WiFi and breakfast.

The Green Park’s disadvantage is its location north of the city centre and three kilometres west of the rocket festival grounds at Phaya Thaen Park. Staying here as a walker is not out of the question but it’s best suited to travellers with a vehicle. The night market is less than a kilometre to the south and the hotel is a bit closer to the bus station than other options.

We suspect that The Green Park peeled a lot of business away from the older JP Emerald Hotel, which had serious carpet stains and an off-putting smell of 1985 in rooms that start at 700 baht at research time in mid 2018. Both of these are popular among Thais for weddings, conferences and tour groups.
