Well designed and well located
Excellent use of limited space at comfortable and well-designed Vieng Mantra makes it a decent midrange choice smack in the centre of Chiang Mai.
Generous low season discounts make it a particularly tempting option for rainy season, when you’re getting midrange standards at flashpacker rates. There’s a well-sized seating area and restaurant downstairs, including tables and chairs on an outside terrace, which makes for a fine spot for your included breakfast and coffee, a lunch-time sandwich or evening cold one. To the right of the cafe is reception and tour and ticketing facilities staffed by helpful English-speaking staff.
Beyond this is a reasonably sized, immaculately clean swimming pool with loungers and a massage area. Rooms are in three-storey, white painted and wood-finished blocks on each side. Categories reflect increased room size, and deluxe also comes with a tub and fancier decor. All room types are as well-appointed as you’d expect for midrange prices, with cable TV, safe, minibar, included tea and coffee, toiletries and spacious bathrooms. WiFi is available throughout. Rooms, particularly standard ones, aren’t very large, but decor is clean and simple and furniture minimal but adequate, so they don’t feel too confining.
Balconies are also a welcome feature in all room categories, with interior ones overlooking the pool and exterior ones the lane in front. A bit like an upmarket version of Top North or a small scale Raming Lodge, Vieng Mantra is a justifiably popular, well-run midrange choice. Check online for competitive rates—discounts of 20 to 40 percent are offered during low season months of May to October.
